What is Refractive Eye Surgery?

Refractive eye surgery is not just LASIK anymore! Refractive eye surgery is any surgical technique used to eliminate or reduce the need for corrective lenses like glasses and contacts. Because the eye is essentially a two-lens optical system (the cornea and the natural human lens behind the pupil), vision correction can be achieved by adjusting either of the components of that two-lens system. Laser vision correction works be refocusing the cornea. Implantable contact lenses and lens replacement surgeries improve the focusing power of the lens inside the eye.

At McFarland Eye Centers, we offer bladeless, “all-laser” LASIK technology and the Allegretto Wave Laser. We are the only practice in Arkansas to offer the Allegretto Wave Laser. Unlike older generation lasers, this laser provides improved night vision and reduces risk of glare and halos. It is also the only laser that maintains the natural shape of your cornea.

ReLEX

If you are over 40 or farsighted, you may have difficulty reading and require reading glasses or bifocals for some activities. The surgeons at McFarland Eye Centers offer a procedure called Refractive Lens Exchange (ReLEX). This procedure replaces the natural lens in your eye with an advanced technology synthetic lens, which is designed to restore your vision near, far, and in-between. One benefit of this procedure is that it completely eliminates the need for future cataract surgery.
