I always knew I wanted to be in healthcare in some capacity. As I grew older, I realized that I wanted to be a specialist in a particular field because it matches with my personality. I like to really hone in on a skill and perfect it. However, I didn’t know my specialty would be cataract surgery until I saw it for the first time. That experience just blew me away. Cataract surgery was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in medicine. It makes such a huge impact on a person’s vision. I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Most people are more nervous about having surgery that affects their vision than they are any other type of healthcare. It’s so humbling to be trusted with that. It’s also humbling to me to be a part of my patient’s lives. I get to really form a relationship with them and care for them over the span of their lives. I feel very blessed to get to do what I do.
I think one of the most important things in eyecare is continuity of care. That’s why forming a relationship with my patients is so important to me. I’m always striving to know my patients better and to listen to their concerns and fears and see how I can help.
I love our patient base. They really are the best. They trust us so much and they’re excited to be cared for at McFarland’s. I also love the Team that I work with every day. I feel like our Team is really motivated by the fact that we’re making a difference in people’s lives every day.
I don’t think I can narrow it down to one thing! I love doing cataract surgery. It’s a joy. It’s a privilege. It’s such a specializes skill and I love perfecting the art of it. I also love seeing returning patients. I love being a part of my patient’s lives.
I married my college sweetheart in 2011 and we have a beautiful daughter. I just adore spending time with her! Also, my uncle was an Ophthalmologist. I got to shadow him and learn from him before he passed and that was a true blessing.
"This is my rating after the removal of cataracts from both eyes. It's been a process, but the results are nothing short of amazing. Before Dr. Heather Bartels did both surgeries, I had 2 pair of bifocals and still had problems reading small print. Today I picked up one pair of glasses at the Hot Springs location, single vision reading glasses. I am very pleased with the outcome. Dr. Bartels is an extremely competent surgeon as well as being courteous during consultations. Dr. Seelinger did an excellent follow-up routine before I got my one pair of glasses. The staff at the Hot Springs office were professional and courteous as well. My recommendation to anyone with cataract problems: Dr McFarland, Dr Heather Bartels, Dr Mason Seelinger. I love not having to wear glasses, except to read."
"Dr. Bartels and staff were punctual, friendly, caring. I especially liked my guardian angel pin. And my first eye is doing great. Looking forward to having the other done!"
